Method

Combine the condensed milk, butter and castor sugar in a heat-resistant bowl. (We used a heat-resistant glass bowl)

Microwave on high for 2 minutes until butter is melted. Stir well with a wooden spoon.

Microwave for a further 10 minutes, stirring regularly (about every two minutes).

After 10 minutes it should be a light caramel color.

Take out and add the vanilla essence. Beat well.

Pour into a greased square tin and allow to set before cutting into squares.
